  • Notes
    • Came to the United States but returned to Italy.
    • Arrived in America aboard ship Didam from Amsterdam to New York at age 27 arriving on 13 April 1892. Umberto's great Great Grandfather. he returned to Italy and lived there in Isernia until his death 24 Sep 1930. Umberto said Michele hated America because they were so controlling with the police watching everything you did. Rumor was that as a contractor Michele hired an under age child of a friend of his. Possibly he was deported but there is no solid evidence of this. Documents state he resided in Harbor, Ohio (Ashtabula) It's believed he came to America first and returned before the three other brothers arrived. The other rumor is that the name was changed from Martella to Martello because it was more masculine.
