| Notes |
- Came to the United States but returned to Italy.
- Arrived in America aboard ship Didam from Amsterdam to New York at age 27 arriving on 13 April 1892. Umberto's great Great Grandfather. He returned to Italy 11 May 1894 and lived there in Isernia until his death 24 Sep 1930. Umberto said Michele hated America because they were so controlling with the police watching everything you did. Rumor was that as a contractor Michele hired an underage child of a friend of his. Possibly he was deported but there is no solid evidence of this. Documents state he resided in Harbor, Ohio (Ashtabula) It's believed he came to America with two other brothers and then paid for Nicola, age 14 to come. Unlike his brothers, he never changed his name from Martella to Martello. It is believed that after working in the US and making money, all four brothers contributed to purchasing the family farm in Castelpetrosa.
